The time is 15 pas eleven in the morning and I just got up. Lately I haven't been sleeping properly due to all these hand-ins.
Tuesday we had to hand in a poster inspired by a haiku. And they will enlarge it to A0 which is exciting.
Yesterday I handed in another 2 projects. One was about creating a set of 4 different postcards displaying mark making of a thing from the kitchen. I chose a peanut and the actually mark making was a lot of fun but the outcome didn't really satisfy me. Sometimes you can have heaps of good material but when you are suppose to make a collage or just putting them together it doesn't feel right. The postcards did look alright but I wasn't 100% happy with them. But that's the way it goes I guess. You can't succeed with everything.
One project that I felt went very well was my typography-project (my favourite unit). It was devided into 2 parts. First part was to create 4 different variations of a poster for Visit Victoria. We were given a text in Arial (14pt, 20pt) and with that we had to work with hierarchies and spatial manipulation to make it look good and still be readable. A tough one but a lot of fun. I love layouts!
Part two was creating your own typeface with the letters TYPE. Apart from the Visit Victoria we actually had free hands to play and be as creative as possible and when there's no bounderies I sometimes find it difficult to do something because I don't know where to start. So that project was a struggle in the beginning. But the last two weeks it started to become clearer for me, especially after finding this cool looking building in the city. From a photo of it I started to play in illustratior by connecting the different lines to actual letters. When I'm getting in a playable mood I just pop up with all these ideas and the outcome did look very good.
So first, I handed in a project that I was very satisfied with and for the second I got very good feedback from my classmates.
And here is the best part! On my way home that day my typography lecturer stopped me to give me a compliment for my assignment. He told me that he had shown the 2nd and 3rd year students my TYPE and the really liked it. You have no idea how happy that made me since that unit is my favourite one and I really respect the teacher because he is honest and says exactly what he has on his mind (which sometimes can be expressed in a mean way). Some people in my class are actually a little bit afraid of him but I really enjoy his sarcasm. So recieving a compliment of someone that has great knowledge in something you love and by the same time is difficult to charm, it makes you non willing to stop smiling.

So today, I'm just gonna keep on smiling and get out in the sun. It's a beautiful day!
